STRESS MANAGEMENT

Stress management starts with identifying the sources of stress in our life. This isn’t as easy as it sounds. Our true sources of stress aren’t always obvious, and it’s all too easy to overlook our own stress inducing thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Sure, we may know that we’re constantly worried about work deadlines. But maybe it’s our procrastination, rather than the actual job demands, that leads to deadline stress.

To identify our true sources of stress, look closely at our habits, attitude, and excuses like explain away stress as temporary, define stress as an integral part of our work or home life or as a part of our personality, blame our stress on other people or outside events, or view it as entirely normal and unexceptional. Until we accept responsibility for the role we play in creating or maintaining it, our stress level will remain outside our control.

A stress journal can help we to identify the regular stressors in our life and the way we deal with them. Each time we feel stressed, keep track of it in our journal. As we keep a daily log, we will begin to see patterns and common themes. Write down what caused our stress (make a guess if you’re unsure), how you felt, both physically and emotionally, how you acted in response and what you did to make yourself feel better.

Since everyone has a unique response to stress, there is no “one size fits all” solution to managing it. No single method works for everyone or in every situation, so experiment with different techniques and strategies. Focus on what makes us feel calm and in control.

Diwali comes from the Sanskrit word ‘Deepavali’ which means “row of lights." Many people have come to know the holiday as the Festival of Lights, but don’t truly understand what the holiday entails or symbolizes. Diwali is a spiritual, religious, and social holiday filled with food, new clothes, and a new start to life. It is considered the start of the New Year and a time when the primary significance of the holiday is to be aware of one’s “inner light." The holiday lasts five days and honors many Hindu deities, including Ganesh (the elephant God) and Laxmi (the Goddess of wealth and prosperity), and the return of Lord Ram.

The story of Lord Ram’s return from Sri Lanka is one of the most beloved in Hindu mythology, and one many attribute to the celebration of Diwali. The story begins when the demon and king of Sri Lanka (Ravana) kidnapped Lord Ram’s wife (Sita). It took Ram several years and the help of both people and animals to build a bridge from India to Sri Lanka, after which Ram defeated Ravana. Upon Ram’s return, the people of Ayodhya (a holy town in India) welcomed Lord Ram and his wife Sita by decorating their homes with small clay lamps. These lamps were also symbolic of the triumph of good versus evil a theme that defines Diwali celebrations everywhere today.

Smoking is more than just a bad habit, it’s an addiction. Governments try to fight smoking by making policies to raise taxes and the price of cigarettes so fewer people can afford them. There are a variety of herbs and supplements that can help people stop smoking. Some herbs to consider include lobelia for cigarette cravings, ginger root for nausea, St. John's Wort for depression, passion flower for irritability, and rhodiola for energy.

Rhodiola extract in the mornings can increase dopamine receptors. Dopamine is a hormone associated with mood. Too little dopamine can lead to anxiety and depression. Increasing dopamine receptors and uptake can make people feel happier, more energetic and less like smoking a cigarette.

People often feel nauseated when they are in withdrawal from nicotine. Ginger root may reduce nausea. Lobelia can be toxic so caution is needed when using.

Oats are a heart healthy food that is high in fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, potassium, and folate. Eating oats can help lower levels of bad cholesterol and keep arteries clear, which helps to lower risk of heart disease. They also contain chemicals called avenathramides that can reduce stress, strengthen the nervous system, fight free radials, and combat high blood pressure. All of these benefits can be crucial for smokers who are at a higher risk for heart disease.

Oats can also directly help smokers quit. An extract derived from green oats can ease withdrawal symptoms and help to decrease cigarette cravings.

ENTERTAINMENT : VIJAY'S THUPPAKI

VIJAY TV BAGS THUPPAKI

It looks like Vijay TV has paid a record price for the satellite rights of actor Vijay's Thuppaki directed by A R Murugadoss. After garnering terrific TRPs earlier this year for telecasting Vijay's Nanban, which released for Pongal earlier this year, we hear that the channel was quite aggressively trying to get hold of the rights for Thuppaki as well.

The film is still on the floors and is expected to release on Diwali. Rumours are rife that the director is actually planning to remake this film in Hindi with Akshay Kumar in the lead.

Thuppaki is said to be a stylish action entertainer and has Kajal Aggarwal pairing up with Vijay for the first time. The film has music by hitmaker Harris Jayaraj while the

cinematography is by visual wizard Santhosh Sivan.

HAHA AND BYUL TAKE WEDDING PICTURES

The HaHa-Byul couple has taken wedding photos!

Instead of everyday wedding photos, HaHa and Byul decided to go for a more comical

theme featuring HaHa’s highly popular ‘Hybrid’ character from ‘Infinity Challenge‘. In one photo, Byul is standing prettily in a frame surrounded by sky blue walls, while HaHa himself stands close to the camera making a goofy expression. His friends, all covering their face in the ‘Hybrid’ style are wearing the same clothes as he is, giving the impression that there were many HaHas.

The second photo looks more traditional at first glance. However, HaHa and Byul are making goofy faces at the camera, and the guests standing around them are holding up HaHa’s picture up to their face.

Entertainment: 2012 MTV EUROPE MUSIC AWARDS.

Both PSY and Super Junior have been nominated for 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards. It looks like Asian music is being more and more recognized each day. PSY’s “Gangnam Style” fever shows no signs of letting up. He is nominated for arguably the biggest category of the night, “Best Video“. He will go head-to-head with the mega-stars of the moment, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, M.I.A, and Rihanna. This is a tremendous achievement, aside from being the only male in the Best Video category, “Gangnam Style” is the only non-English song in the running. 

Super Junior is nominated under the “Best Asian Act” category. Recall that Big Bang was nominated under the “World Wide Act Asia Pacific Nominees” category eventually winning ‘Best Worldwide Act‘ at last year’s awards.

The winner of the ’Best Asian Act’ category will represent Asia in the “Best Worldwide Act” voting. The other nominated Asian acts include, Japan’s EXILE, China’s Hangeng (a former member of Super Junior), Taiwan’s Jolin Tsai, and our Malaysia’s Yuna.
