Human Papillomavirus (HPV)

HPV is the main cause of cervical cancer that is spread through sexual contact. Every woman who has sex is at risk HPV. Cervix cancer occurs at least 10 years after being infected with HPV will cause cervix cancer. In Malaysia, cervix is the third most common in women after breast cancer and colorectal cancer. According to the National Cancer Registry Records 2007, cervical cancer comprises 8.4% of the 10 most frequent cancer among women in Malaysia. For women who have had intercourse, Pap smear test is still to be done on a regular basis even after receiving 3 doses of HPV vaccination. Vaccination give to avoid cervix cancer due to HPV infection. Properly, vaccination is given before sexual intercourse takes place. Vaccination is given at the top of the arm 3 times injections over 6 months.
